A Collection of Italian Wines takes up residence in Sydney’s Town Hall

Come Sunday 21 August, more than 100 Italian vineyards showcasing more than 250 wines, will take over Sydney Town Hall.

Now in its third year, the Italian Wine + Food Festival celebrates all things Italian - food, wine and culture. Under one roof, across one intensive day of tastings, cooking demonstrations, masterclasses and talks led by industry leaders, the Festival is a must for all Italophiles with a passion for food and wine.

Sydney's best Italian chefs including Neapolitan-born Armando Percuoco of Buon Ricordo, Sardinian-native Giovanni Pilu of Pilu and Lombardian Alessandro Pavoni and Stefano Manfredi will present talks and take part in forums. Food stands will present dishes by leading chefs - Gabriele Taddeucci of Balla at The Star will cook wholemeal maccheroncini with duck Ragú;

Eugenio Maiale of A Tavola will serve soft polenta with a dolce latte gorgonzola and red witlof leaves, and Danny Russo of Russolini will fry up mozzarella sticks.

There will also be cheese and pasta-making demonstrations, olive oil masterclasses presented by olive oil expert and chef Nino Zoccali of Pendolino, and food talks. The Australian Gourmet Traveller Food Market onsite means that you can shop for food and ingredients to take home, from salumi and cheese to pasta and bread, gelato and coffee.

Italy’s wine styles, and regions, will be celebrated in a series of Italian Wine Workshops led by sommelier Rocco Esposito (Vue de Monde, Melbourne and Icebergs, Sydney), Sommelier Tours as well as Wine Masterclasses and talks presented by Gourmet Traveller WINE Magazine will be lead by wine writer Mike Bennie including a session titled ‘Treasure Island’, dedicated to Sardinian wines.

And if vino is not your drink of choice, there’s an Espresso Di Manfredi espresso bar, a negroni bar and a Menabrea Birra Bar to whet your whistle and toast 'Salute!’ to all things Italian.
