Before the Arco, there was no such thing as an overhead light that didn't need wiring. This was in the dark days before 1962 when industrial designers Achille and Pier Castiglioni unveiled a floor lamp that could - behold! - directly illuminate a person's book!

Held steady by a solid and stylish marble base, the Arco is an early example of form meets function in design - before it was cliché.
