Milan Fashion Week: Everything you need to know

Twice a year New York, London, Milan and Paris host the industry's premier fashion shows with luxe labels such as Armani, Fendi and Missoni presenting their collections.

From sexy suiting to romantic ruffles and trending makeup styles, Essteele takes a sneak peek at the highlights of this year's Milan Fashion Week.

Outerwear

Coats, capes, and jackets ruled the runway and nowhere was this more evident than at the Bottega Veneta show. Elegant autumn colours, nipped in waists and defined silhouettes perfectly accentuated the jodhpur style pants and wedged boots worn by former top model Eva Herzigova and her crew. In contrast, Gucci sent It Girls, Kendall, Gigi, and Bella down a plexiglass tunnelled runway in super-luxe fur coats, thrown over garden party-inspired dresses making it one of the most talked about shows of the week.

Makeup

Statement makeup was most definitely back on the radar with Cleopatra-styled eyes at Versace, striking abstract eyeliner at Marni and not to be outdone, Gucci upped the ante with a dramatic black vinyl lip. Versace models also gamely modelled electric red and orange hair extensions accentuating the label's bold theme of “Love, Courage, and Equality.” Fendi opted for a pared-back look for their diverse array of models with an emphasis on clear skin and tousled hair. Prada embodied a 60's vibe with models sporting boyish yet feminine pixie do's.

Headwear

Headwear designs were also high impact on the runway thanks to impressive chandelier hairpieces at Moschino, coloured feather headdresses from Prada and cute fringe hats delivered by Pucci. Pearly clips gave Bottega Veneta's show a romantic feel, whilst beanie-sporting models at Versace topped off their streetwear vibe. At the Missoni finale, designer Angela Missoni sent her models out in pink knitted “pussy hats“ in support of women’s rights and a fashionable thumbing of the nose at U.S. President Donald Trump.

Footwear

Towering stilettos, chunky flatforms, and preppy flats are this fall's must-haves for the fashion set. Prada’s feathered sandals caused a frisson of excitement, Fendi's kooky over-the-knee boots in crushed velvet were a hit and Gucci showed off shiny pumps with curved heels further decorated with pearl embellishments. Fendi also delivered in spades with fabulous knee-high boots guaranteed to set pulses racing.
