Liguria is a crescent-shaped region in northwest Italy.

Its Mediterranean coastline, dotted with pastel seaside villages, is known as the Italian Riviera. The most famous destinations, including the 5 fishing villages of the Cinque Terre, stylish Portofino and Santa Margherita Ligure, are on the eastern coast, or Riviera di Levante, with pebbly turquoise coves backed by dramatic cliffs and pines.

What to order: pesto alla Genovese; corzetti, testaroli and trenette pasta; seafood.
